Resource circularity
Resource circularity management system
LT Metal operates a resource circularity management system to minimize resource loss in production and improve circularity. Under the Act on the Promotion of Saving and Recycling of Resources (Resource Circulation Act), we set and implement circular economy targets each year and manage waste reduction, recycling, and reuse systematically. The system lets us analyze waste volumes and treatment regularly and pursue improvements that minimize final disposal. Scrap generated at the Juan and Namdong plants is fed back into our processes, cutting raw material use and raising our resource circularity rate. We plan to keep reviewing the efficiency of our recycling activities against these circular economy targets and to strengthen data-based management to improve circularity performance.
Waste management
To manage the waste generated at its sites systematically, LT Metal tracks annual waste treatment on the basis of waste discharge and treatment reporting data. Waste is separated into general waste and designated waste, and each site's volumes and treatment methods are reviewed regularly. An integrated reporting system improves management efficiency, and the full chain from generation to final treatment is operated transparently to legal standards. We also analyze the causes of waste generation to reduce unnecessary discharge and to increase the share of recyclable resources.
Circular economy targets
LT Metal sets resource circularity targets and implementation plans to advance the circular economy. To minimize final disposal and raise the circular use rate, we continuously track generation, recycling, and final disposal volumes for our main waste streams. We currently aggregate data on six major waste types to calculate circular use volumes, and use this as the basis for treatment plans in the target implementation years. We aim to keep improving the circular use rate, reduce resource waste, and strengthen our management system so that waste from production is returned to use as far as possible.
Scrap recycling
We recover and recycle metal scrap generated in manufacturing. The Juan and Namdong plants each track scrap received and scrap reissued, and use this to calculate an annual reintroduction rate. For 2024, the scrap reintroduction rate was 81% at the Juan Plant and 52% at the Namdong Plant, and scrap movements at both plants are tracked on an ongoing basis. Our internal management system is designed to expand scrap recycling, reduce raw material consumption, and minimize the final disposal of waste.
